The secret to education is to teach kids to love reading and everything else will work itself out.

Connexus®. It's my baby. Technology and I have a love/hate relationship, but when we like each other, I love my job.

Transcript

I am mostly a technology geek, but only sort of. I started out installing AV equipment waiting for my first job in video production. From there I went into Interactive Multimedia Design, Marketing and then into Software Development. I've worked with the small bootstrap startup (VideoGrafects), the corporate spin off startup (OutReach Technologies) and the heavily funded dot com boom startup (Speakout.com). Education wasn't on my radar until Connections Education, but being in a company where the technology is not the star, but part of an ensemble cast is liberating.

Extracurriculars

There used to be a time when you could be "outside of the office". Not so in today's smart phone connected world. However, when I am "supposed" to be not thinking about work, I think about my kids and I enjoy camping, swimming, karate, dancing, or whatever else THEY are doing at the time.

Awards

I hold a B.S. in learning on the job and a Ph.D. from the school of getting it done. Put another way, I was always too busy on the "next big startup" to finish that degree.

Lessons Learned

For the first few years working with Steven Guttentag I would often ask silly questions about education like "Why do we have to take attendance? Just because you are there, doesn't mean you learned anything." And the answer was always "because that is how it is done". That's not a good answer and we should fix that.

Reading. Yes, I know it is not a subject in the normal definition but read my quote again and it will all make sense.
